Old Work / Fresh Eyes / New Experience

Last night I found an old notebook.

In it, there were a ton of ideas I had from years ago.

Past Adam has some great ideas. Some of which current Adam had forgotten. It gave me a jolt of energy, and through it, a whole bunch of ideas.

It reminded me of two things.

  1. Notes rarely have an expiration date
  2. Review and reflection are key ingredients of newness

Our perspectives change. Notes stay locked in time.  Combining that at an interval means great ideas in the present.

Happy MLK Day – A Few Thoughts

We don’t teach MLK enough.

Letter From Birmingham jail is more than likely speaking to you.

The Black Power Defined and I See The Promised Land are amazing pieces of work, please read them.

MLK Jr. died an unpopular person. Such is the price of righteousness and telling truth to power. Never dismiss the power of the powerful to trivialize you in life and lionize certain parts of you in death to move their narrative. Stop referencing the I Have a Dream Speech.

Kamala Harris, with her record, declaring she is running for president today is doubly shameful.

It’s All Point Of View

Brilliance is nothing more than taking your uniqueness and applying to the world.

Brilliance can be love or hated, make you rich or make you poor, or even have you second guessing everything.

But the great thing is, we all have it – we just need to feel free enough to use it.

Liftoff

A space mission begins at liftoff.

Sure, there is a ton of work that happens before liftoff. There is planning that goes on, making sure that the shuttle is stocked with supplies, and picking the crew that will participate.

These are critical steps.

With that said, nothing matters until liftoff.

The project that you’ve been “planning to get off the ground once you figure out…” well, do me a favor.

Try to lift off this week.

Habit.

Each of the following takes me around fifteen minutes.

  • Haircare & skin routine
  • Setting up my calendar each day and doing a few pushups
  • Reading a chapter in a book
  • Blog writing

All of which make sure I have a successful day.

Thats one hour.

The power hour.

Want to try it with me?

Stray Thoughts 1/17

Acupuncture is fun – had it today and I await the results. A little itchy though.

Meetings don’t have to suck – it’s amazing what 15 minutes to think about a meeting can do to the outcome of it.

Find your friends – Friends are everywhere. Try to see them sometime. If you live in a major city, find the acceptable connecting ritual (in NYC it’s coffee and booze – sometimes both) and get to it. Connection helps us grow and thrive.

Outcomes – just that. Think outcomes.

I love Harlem – I may or may not have to move. It’s interesting how connected we become to a neighborhood after living there for some amount of time. I’ve been here for eight years and enjoyed every minute of it.

Stamps – I wonder when Cornel West and Noam Chomsky will get stamps. Does it matter to them? Something eternal (atleast in the current world) about being on a stamp. As things get digital, will that continue? Are forever stamps forever? (Fuck this GOVT Shutdown btw).

You Follow You.

I walked by a new gym today.

The smell gave it away. Every gym, even when its fresh, has the smell of rubber that has been on the floor for a while.

There is no hiding it. Gym = floor rubber. It’s well defined.

As you do new things, your perspective is like the floor rubber. It’s you. There is no escaping the smell of it, at least for a while.

Train First Train Often.

There is always time to get better.

Ten minutes a day adds up over a month.

Start today, I am sure you can prioritize it over something else. In fact, my guess is if you are reading this blog, you have more than enough time to do so.

Give it a shot.

Things Aren’t Always What They Seem

In fact they never are.

We don’t have all the information, even when we lie to yourselves to act as if we do.

We are always guessing and filling in the gaps.

So since we ultimately fill in the gaps, how powerful can it be if we assume we are all trying our best?

Or, what if we start assuming no one is out to get us?

What happens then?
