Awkwardness

I don’t understand why talking to people can be so awkward.

Sometimes, conversation seems to be flowing. You can just jump in and speak about anything, anyone and anybody – no matter the circumstance.

Sometimes though – it is like pulling teeth. Saying hello can be a challenge. Nothing I do seems right. There I go – bothering someone. DO I have bad breath? Why can’t this just go smoothly…

I don’t know how to improve my skills in this area – and with that said – I know now that I want to.

I have to start talking to people.

Making Yourself A Part Of The Conversation

You have to make yourself a part of the conversation.

One thing NYC is teaching me, almost on a daily basis, is that we are in a place where you don’t need to be heard.

It isn’t an issue of want – but in this city, there is so much talent, the question becomes why do I need you. What do you bring me that I can benefit from?

It is your job to come by and provide that context. In most places, just saying you are there to provide that context will give you a shot.

Here, you need to show it, be consistent, and build it into your routine.

If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
