In Earnest

The ideal state of being in chaos

Before I continue with this post, I want to warn you that that idea of an “ideal” state is peak relative, often verbalized with the term “it depends.”

I say that to say that this changes like the weather.

With that said, in a world of chaos, my best move may be living in earnest.

What is living in earnest?

It means taking things seriously. Less humor, more conviction. Less personalization, more binary. More cold, less warm.

Why?

In the middle of the storm, someone needs to stay consistent.  Let the emotions swirl elsewhere, for now; we’ve got a goal to accomplish.

The Ideal Self Delusion

The Ideal Self doesn’t have to “deal”

The initial shock of dropping something you like hurts.

It hurts like hell.

The reason: on the other side of something we like is our ideal selves.

We, in our heart of hearts, are that marathon runner that works in soup kitchens while building a national nonprofit and makes our “significant other” swoon with our romantic gestures.

However, we can’t do all these things at once. In the face of too many options, we freeze due to the consequences.

The “ideal self” doesn’t deal with consequences.

We do.

So:

  1. Forgive yourself for it.
  2. Pick one and knock it out the park.

Ideal Responsibility – Make Choices

Take time to “make” the ideal you.

Ask yourself, how do you want to exist.Write, with intention, your ideal self.

Once you write this on paper, put it somewhere visible. Review it daily.

Remember, it isn’t real. It is a model.

If we look at the “model” long enough, we see just how attainable it is. Our ideal selves aren’t impossible; we just have to make choices to get there.

We own these choices.

Eventually, we can become a component of our ideal self. Then, you will create the next one.
