“Don’t Quit” isn’t Good Advice

Quitting isn’t evil.

When most of us are young, we “learn” that quitting is a negative trait.  “If you really want something and decided to get it, you must keep going and don’t stop.”

This is great advice for robots.

We aren’t robots.

We have limited time. Therefore, humans quit. Every time we do, we try to reconcile our actions with the “don’t quit” advice. From that disconnect, we create cognitive dissonance, and weird stuff starts to happen.

We aren’t tied to our decisions permanently.

It is OK to “quit” if you need to.

I Don’t Know What You Need

It’s impossible.

I don’t know what you need.

I can make assumptions based on what I claim to know, but its a fruitless exercise because no one, even the tweet it out generation, gives anyone else the full view of her mind.

Any assumption I make is an incomplete picture.

When someone tells you what they need, don’t make the mistake of assuming you know better than they do by thinking over them trying to do whats best, just listen.
