Quitting Builds Character if You Take Responsibility

You choose to quit; no one made you clock out.

Quitting is a decision. It is rarely, if ever, forced upon you.

Like all decisions, quitting isn’t a “wrong” or “right” choice. It is contextual.

The thing to remember, though, is that you choose to quit.

Frame that decision in that way. To do it in another way inhibits growth. Thus, think of responsibility as your development fertilizer.

Remember, you have a choice.

Projects you do or don’t choose to ship create impact.

Take responsibility.

Then, use them as a map to help you move forward.

Ideal Responsibility – Make Choices

Take time to “make” the ideal you.

Ask yourself, how do you want to exist.Write, with intention, your ideal self.

Once you write this on paper, put it somewhere visible. Review it daily.

Remember, it isn’t real. It is a model.

If we look at the “model” long enough, we see just how attainable it is. Our ideal selves aren’t impossible; we just have to make choices to get there.

We own these choices.

Eventually, we can become a component of our ideal self. Then, you will create the next one.

Time to Dismiss the Default of Reactive

Reactive isn’t memorable.

We all have 24 hours in a day. There isn’t anyone who has 23 or 25. You can’t “save” time. You only spend it.

Time’s consistency combined with its scarcity is a major reason it’s the most valuable resource we have.

Our default state is to react to time:

  • Wait for an email to tell me what to do
  • Get that text to show us who to talk to
  • Find “fires” so we can feel effective

All of these things are reactive. None of those instances create memories. You won’t tell people at the bar later about that email that started you on a project. It isn’t a life that is memorable. When someone asks about what you were doing, all you say is you were “busy.”

When one is reactive, they rely on the word busy. Busy is a buzzword designed to protect your ego. When you say your busy, you don’t have to think about why you decided to do something.  You take away your personal responsibility.

At the end of the day, would you rather be busy or memorable?
