Slow Down

Where is the fire?

We want to rush because progress feels good. If our default is “active” then we, in effect, are covering our ass. If you see, I cranked out 30 emails today; it’s pretty obvious that I’ve been working on something great, right?

Wrong.

The good work takes time. This means deliberately choosing to look “unbusy.” That is a hard choice because social standards scream for progress. No one we know gets fired because they sent too many slack messages. So we default to active.

As a result, we’ve implicitly chosen to do mediocre work.

The great work happens when you give it the space to grow. Decide to, even when the optics tell you not.

The Idea in Your Head Can’t Do Anything There

Do.

That idea, do it.

It’s a new week.

Try it. Good or bad, your idea is a touch point for your taste.  Trust the world to give you an experience that helps you grow.

Guess what?

Whatever it is might change the world. Or it might not go past your laptop screen.

Either way, you are better to have done it.

So do.

We are all waiting.

A Short Deadline Exercise

Short deadlines can bring out the best in you, especially if paired with some accountability.

Quick exercise:

First watch this:

Then: for the next thing on your to-do list (or calendar)* move the deadline up to today, and promise to pay if you miss.

I am always amazed at what focus  and accountability can do 🙂

Let me know what happens.

*Anything within reason. You aren’t going to ship that full-fledged marketing plan in a day… or maybe you can?

Mistakes Made

Mistakes have to get made.

I recently got a raise at work, and for all intent and purpose, my job couldn’t be going better and I am spending this morning home because they allow me to stay home and get this dental surgery done.

With that said – I am now looking for another job.

To plow ahead with my creative pursuits, to build equity, to work on something that I believe in, I feel like I have to take this risk and jump to another company.

I want to build my skills and see if I can help grow something.

If it doesn’t work, ill slink back into the corporate structure…but I feel like its time to start a brand new journey.
