Creating the environment where giving is worth more than taking is extremely difficult. It goes against my nature – and I assume, most others. It is far easy to take those scraps on the table than to give it to the weaker man.
However, what I, as well as most people forget in those times of selfishness is that the gift of giving creates a positive relationship – something that cannot be tallied in money or short term party favors.
Relationships separate the leader from the tyrant.
Leaders are remembered. Tyrants are buried and washed away – only to be brought up as the villain when necessary.
