“Everybody bombs – Richard Pryor.”
Yesterday I failed.
I got in front of a crowd, and didn’t make them laugh. It has been a long time since I have done this, and those 7 minutes felt like an eternity.
Looking into a group of people and not seeing them enjoy the moment lets you know the gravity of the task you are performing. Its a life check.
It reminds me how hard art is. How much work you have to put in to be good. To do a good job is to be cherished.
I have a recording of the set, and I will devour it this weekend. I promised myself I needed to hear the good and the bad, and I will put myself to that test. The hope is it to forge a stronger person inside.
More tests coming up – I plan on getting uncomfortable this year. Hopefully it forces some growth.
